In 1997, ten years ago, I met Bob Stein and Frank Boyd. Bob had this extraordinary company called Voyager, that made the most exciting kind of multimedia I could find. At the time Frank was running Artech in Islington, which brought groups of artists together with technology.
At the time, all this technology didn't grab me, because I wasn't moved by what was on the screen. It wasn't rich. But when i saw what the people in Artech were doing, and what Bob was doing, I got involved. I started running Labs with them, creating teams of multimedia people from across Europe.
I remember one novelist who combined a description of a murder with a bloodcurdling scream and blood seeping out of the word. That seemed exciting to me. I'm interested in what we can do to push the form beyond what to me is still quite clunky, word-bound, and/or too elliptical without being content-rich.
